No person shall be eligible to become an Active or Junior Member of Atwood Yacht Club unless the person has been proposed to the Board of Trustees by an Active Member or Senior Member of the Club. Such proposals shall be made in writing by the Active Member or Senior Member using a membership proposal form approved by the Board of Trustees. The Active Member or Senior Member who makes the proposal of a person for any category of membership in the club must know and endorse the person he/she is proposing.

Upon receipt of a membership proposal, the Board of Trustees shall review it without taking any formal action and shall then offer such proposal to the Membership Committee for investigation. The Membership Committee shall make a thorough investigation of each person proposed for membership and shall report its findings to the Board of Trustees.

If the report of the Membership Committee on a proposal is favorable, the Board of Trustees shall issue a membership application to the Active Member or Senior Member who proposed the prospective member. The Active Member or Senior Member shall have the prospective member complete the application form which will then be returned to the Board of Trustees after it has been endorsed by the proposing member and one other Active Member who knows the applicant.

If there is a waiting list for membership, the Board of Trustees shall hold the application without formal action until there is a vacancy in the membership category desired by the applicant. In any event, when there is an application on hand for which there is a vacancy, such application shall be posted on the bulletin board of the club for at least two weeks before any action is taken on it by the Board of Trustees. After the posting time has elapsed, the Board of Trustees shall vote whether to accept or reject the application and the decision of the Board of Trustees shall be final. Applications for sons, daughters, sons-in-law and daughters-in-law of an Active Member shall have priority over all others in the order in which they are received by the Board of Trustees.

After a two-week period has elapsed, and the Board of Trustees has approved an application for membership, the Secretary shall advise the successful applicant of his or her acceptance as a member. A membership card shall be issued to each successful applicant within 30 days of his or her approval of the board of Trustees if all of his or her fees, assessments and dues have been paid in full.

If an approved applicant fails to pay all fees, assessments and dues within 30 days of approval by the Board of Trustees, the Secretary shall refer the application back to the Board of Trustees for further action. The Secretary shall also, at the direction of the Board of Trustees, notify all unsuccessful applicants for membership and see that such applicant's deposit is refunded promptly.

A deposit shall accompany each application for membership in the club. This deposit will be placed in an escrow bank account by the Secretary-Treasurer and shall be kept there while the proposed member's application is pending before the Board of Trustees. Such deposit shall be returned to the applicant if he or she withdraws his or her application for membership or if his or her application is rejected by the Board of Trustees. For successful applicants, their deposits shall be applied to entrance fees, dues and assessments upon election to membership.

No Active Member or Senior Member of the club shall propose more than one application for membership during any calendar year.
